Best wedding songs for your first danceYour wedding is supposed to be the best day of your life. The day you agree to spend the rest of your life with someone else and pledge to care for them for the rest of your days. So nothing should be missed out when planning this amazing day, especially not the decision of which song is to be your ‘first dance’.

I mean can you imagine; you have just gotten married and the DJ announces that your first dance is next. But you have left the decision of the song to the last minute and the responsibility was handed to the DJ who is a stranger a man who you don’t know. This is a risk that should not be taken. He could choose from a range of terrible songs which would truly mar your first dance. I mean what if he chooses ‘My Heart Will Go on’ by Celine Dion; ‘On Bended Knee’ by Boys II Men; or anything by Mariah Carey? You may as well end the reception there and then just incase someone dies of a cheese overdose!

So hopefully, this list of beautiful songs may inspire you to make sure your first dance is one to remember.

Crazy Love – Van Morrison
‘Brown Eyed Girl’ may have been Van Morrison’s most famous hit, but his back catalogue is full of gems. One of which is ‘Crazy Love’ which is a wonderful and mellow love song that is perfect to slow dance to. It is subtle and smooth with some beautiful backing vocals and harmonies. Just listen to it below and you will see how perfect this song is.

Wonderful Tonight – Eric Clapton

This one lands just on the right side of cheese. Clapton is a legend and this song is a perfect example of his ability to pen the perfect love song which should never be overlook when choosing the song for your first dance. The sliding guitar and jangling organ throughout make it luscious to listen to and Clapton’s vocals are as smooth as ever. Try not to drift off when listening to this song.

You Make Me Feel So Young – Frank Sinatra

Right, this is one of the most lovely songs of all time, however, if you are going to choose this for your first dance you should be aware that you might be required to actually dance. This tune is a bit more lively and therefore you wont be able to simply slow dance your way through it. That said, it is a happy and bouncy song which isn’t too soppy and is certainly not cheesy. Sinatra’s songs are perfect for big occasions and ‘You Make me Feel So Young’ would be a wonderful song to dance to at your wedding.

It Must Be Love – Labi Siffre

You may not have heard of Labi Siffre but you have definitely heard the version by The Madness. Well, even though The Madness’ version is ace, it is the 1971 original which is most certainly the best and most suitable for a wedding. Siffre’s light and smooth voice carries you through this bouncy and upbeat love song which is sure to put a smile on the faces of everyone.

Couldn’t Love You More – John Martyn

Another slow one to end with and I may have just saved the best until last. This song needs no introduction as it is simply stunning. John Martyn’s grainy husky voice perfectly compliments the hammering guitar and floating keyboards to make this one of the most incredible love songs of all time. Honestly if you listen to this you will see what I mean.
