The festival season is well under way with Glastonbury, T in the Park and Isle of Wight Festival all coming and going. However, there are still a number of big festivals on the horizon and saving money is of the utmost importance. But don’t worry! Friday-Ad is here to help, we’ve got our top tips to make sure you don’t break the bank this summer!

Take Cereal Bars

Everyone knows that the price of food at festivals can be ridiculous and with breakfast being the most important meal of the day this festival hack is critical. Cereal bars are an excellent way to have a nutritious breakfast without paying extortionate prices for a bacon sandwich or fruit salad. Granted when you are experiencing the hangover from hell, all your stomach wants is a nice greasy meal, but if you can resist this urge and utilise the power of the breakfast bar you will leave the festival with A LOT more cash in your pocket.

Keep Your Money Safe

Now obviously no one intentionally doesn’t keep their money safe whilst at a festival, or in day-to-day life for that matter, but the most likely way you will end up spending over the odds is if your wallet or phone is lost or stolen and you have to get a new one. Therefore, the best way to keep it safe is to get yourself a bumbag, that way you don’t have to carry around a big rucksack and you’ll have more maneuverability to get your dance on! AND if you needed anymore reason to use one, Mr. Motivator wears one too.

Only Take Cash

Whilst an ATM in outside world is extremely helpful, inside the confines of the festival walls they become extremely sneaky. No one should ever have to pay to get access to their own money, but if you wish to use an ATM at a festival, that is exactly what you are going to have to do. So do the simple thing, go out and get all the cash you’ll need before you go, it’ll save you time AND money! Also, it will help you budget better for the time that you are there, saving you even MORE money, brilliant!

Volunteer

Volunteering can be a great way to save the pennies if you want to have the fun of festivals on a budget, so long as you’re willing to make the effort. You’ll find that most of the jobs available are pretty simple and require little to no training at all, these can range from giving out wristbands to working behind a bar. In return you could possibly (most of the time) get free admission, accommodation, food and maybe even travel costs. However, this is a very popular way of attending festivals so be sure to apply as early possible as places get booked up fast!

Recycle

This initially might not sound like the best way to save money but hear us out. Recycling is fast becoming one of the simplest ways to help fund your festival experience. Many festivals are keen to show that they are promoting being green, so a lot are now offering money in exchange for plastic cups, granted its only around 10p per cup, but every little helps when you’re festivaling on a budget!

Glamping Really Isn’t Necessary

There is no such thing as a ‘luxury tent’ if the heavens open (which they most probably will in the UK), your stuff will get wet and/or muddy. Therefore, there is no point in spending over the odds for glamorous camping equipment when you spend most of your time away from your tent!

Book Your Journey in Advance

When you finally decide what festival you want to go to, be sure to book your travel arrangements ASAP, as they will get more and more expensive the closer to the time it gets! If you are going anywhere that will require getting a train, the best place to go is TrainSplit.com. It will slash the cost of your train fare, giving you more money to spend during your trip away. Result!

If You MUST Buy Merchandise, Buy It On The Last Day

Obviously spending money on festival merchandise is never a good way of saving money. So if you are hellbent on picking something up, make sure you resist the urge until the final day. The reason for this is because the majority of stalls will want to get rid of their stock before the festival’s finished, and so the gear you’re after is likely to be available for a knockdown price.

Consider Festivals Abroad

Travelling to Europe, and further afield, has become commonplace within the festival scene, with the number of foreign festivals on the rise. This is also largely as a result of the cheap flights on offer and the guaranteed sunshine you’ll be exposed to. While we do not pledge that it’ll be 100% cheaper overall, it is worth exploring your options to see what you can get for your money.

Be Careful Where You Pitch Your Tent

This isn’t strictly a ‘money saving’ tip but it is a KEY aspect to consider, as the decision as to where you pitch your tent can have an effect on your entire festival experience, so choose wisely. If you are too near to a path you are likely to be kept up to the early hours by people wandering around at night, if you are too close to the toilets you are likely to be subject to some rather indifferent smells, and if you pitch yourself at the bottom of a hill, and it rains, you will be facing the brunt of the water instead of those clever people who placed their tents higher up.
