The latest information from the government suggests we will be at home for the foreseeable future, so it’s time we start an exercise regime at home.

Apart from exercise being good for our health and well being, it’s great for our mental health too!

“But I don’t have a gym at home” I hear you cry. No worries! At times like this it’s important to improvise. There is no better way to create an exercise plan with what we have around us.

There are currently loads of Instructors wanting to help out, and offering free classes online. With your kids at home too, make it their PE class too!

Cardio

We all need to do some cardio to get the heart rate pumping, and the oxygen flowing through our circulation system. Whether it’s for a simple warm up or something a bit more hard core. If you have a staircase, you have a step machine right there!

Got a garden? If so great, that is your track.

If you’re looking for a more intense workout, or class then join an online streaming class such as Zumba with Sheryn.

Toning

Hiit (High Intensity Interval training) workouts are great. They can be short 15 min sessions, or up to an hour.

They work like circuit classes and couldn’t be easier to set up.

A very simple HIIT class can have 4,6, or 8 (or more) stations. At each station do the exercise repeatedly for 30 or 45 secs. Before moving to the next station. Try doing 3 rounds, with a 15 second rest between each station.

  • Push ups
  • Squats
  • Tricep dips
  • Side lunges

Fancy adding cardio too? Put these between the stations above

  • Jumping Jacks
  • High knees
  • Burpees
  • Skipping rope

Why not inject some competition among the family, and set a plank challenge!

Flexibility, Conditioning or something  a bit more exotic?

There are lots of options online to stream classes for stretching, pilates, and yoga.

The pole lab offers live streaming classes and pre-recorded options.
