The weather

This may seem like a minor point, however, properties to view better in the spring, and this has a lot to do with the weather. The days are starting to get longer and people are generally more optimistic than in the cold, dark days of winter. Gardens start coming back to life and everything just looks better.

More buyers are prepared to go house hunting as the weather gets better and there is more optimism around.

 

School term times

Many buyers start looking in springtime with a view to moving in over the summer. This leaves time to get settled in before the start of the new school year at the end of summer.

The Easter Holidays also give people a couple of extra days to view properties and get down to some decision making.

Given that spring is a pretty optimistic time of the year and that many buyers will be looking to get into their new home by summer, there are more buyers active in the market at this time of year. The market tends to pick up pace from March and then dip again in June/July.

Tips to help you sell your home in Spring

You can really take advantage of the brighter weather and your garden in the spring to help present your house as well as possible to potential buyers. Here are a few of our top tips.

1. Open the windows

Let the spring air in and help your house feel as fresh and light as possible. Get rid of any dust that has accumulated over the winter.

2. Get cleaning

You’ll want your house to be as clean as possible when potential buyers are viewing your property. A top tip is to remember to clean the windows, inside and out, which will help as much of that lovely spring light in as possible. The smell of clean linen can also help your home smell more inviting.

3. Fresh flowers

A couple of vases of fresh spring flowers placed strategically around the house will help brighten up the place and help it smell better than an artificial air freshener would.

4. Clean up in the garden

If you have a garden, make sure it’s looking as good as the inside of your house. Get rid of any dead leaves that have accumulated over the window and make sure that all pathways are clear and not overgrown.

Another top tip is to prune any trees or hedges that block light from entering the house.

If you don’t have many flowers out in your garden yet, you might want to consider planting some daffodils or tulips to help brighten up the place.

5. Mow the lawn

This will quickly help to make the garden feel a bit tidier. If you mow your lawn diagonally, this can help make your garden feel bigger.

6. Consider getting a professional in

If there is part of the interior or exterior of your home that could do with some work, getting it done before you put your house on the market could really be worth it. It could be something as simple as getting a gardener in for a day, or getting a carpenter in to finally sort out those wonky kitchen cupboards.

Most buyers will be looking for a property that is ready for them to move in without them needing to do much work to it. If there is a job that needs doing that is a little more major than those mentioned above, it really is worth getting this done before putting your home on the market. Buyers won’t want the additional cost of replacing part of the roof, for example.
