Our sister company, Simply Jobs Boards, released its first annual report in January and revealed that recruitment is currently a candidate-driven market.
Is now the right time to start looking for a new job?
The report takes data from Simply Jobs Boards five flagship recruitment sites: Aviation Job Search, Simply Law Jobs, InAutomotive, Simply Sales Jobs and Simply Marketing Jobs.
The team analysed 859,555 jobs posted to these sites over the last two years and crunched over £21 billion worth of salary data. The results give some key insights for both jobseekers and recruiters.
billion £ in salary data
One of the key takeaways from the report is that each of these sites saw more growth in the number of jobs advertised than in the number of new jobseekers signing up.
“The demand for talent is on the rise, and it far outweighs supply in many industries. We live in a candidate driven market today, where jobseekers can be approached by multiple recruiters. The struggle to fill certain roles, particularly niche roles, has been challenging due to the lack of skill set, the increase in competition and location difficulties.”
This looks to be good news for jobseekers, particularly as four of the five sites also showed a rise in the average salary advertised on the site. Only Simply Marketing Jobs showed a decrease here.
The report also revealed the gender split of those browsing jobs on each of the sites, showing that the aviation, automotive and sales industries are still male-dominated, whereas the legal and marketing industries are female-dominated.
Simply Jobs Boards also asked hundreds of jobseekers what their motivation for looking for a new job was. In all five industries, the top answer was…
…‘looking for a new challenge’.
“This is a first for us, and I’m really pleased with the end result. We wanted to be able to give recruiters an insight as to how or why jobseekers search for jobs, to help improve their own recruitment strategy.
“It’s very much a candidate’s market today, so if we want to attract and retain top talent, particularly the Millennial generation, we have to adapt our strategies to meet their needs – which is where data like this proves useful for anyone reconsidering their recruitment process.”Ian Partington
