Beach Cleaning organisation sets out to host world’s largest beach clean event on a local Sussex beach.

Ocean Changes was set up in December 2017 by Marcus Ulderigo and his partner Rachel Yardley. He told the Friday-Ad about how they’d always wanted to be part of making a change which inspired them to set up the mass beach cleaning operations.

He explained that: “since watching Blue Planet 2 and the program Chasing Corals, we decided that we had to do something now.”Ocean Changes’ aim is to spread more awareness of the damaging effects that our throw away lifestyles and destructive carbon footprint has on our seas, marine life and the future of our planet.

Taking it into their own hands, Marcus explained: “We want to do as much as we can to make sure we do something about the issues rather than hearing about them and disregarding its importance.”

Since starting Ocean Changes they’ve taken on 4 more, very passionate volunteers, who help with beach cleans, planning future events and raising more awareness.

So far the organisation have been very thankful to have been sponsored by Lyons Farm Eco Cars and Green People who provided them with extra equipment for the cause.

While they have had support for the cause they have also funded a lot of the equipment themselves, something they hope donations and support can help with in the future.

The first beach clean was in January 2018 where 250 people joined the team to help clean the beaches of Goring-By-Sea. Although only lasting one-hour Marcus described the amount of rubbish collected as: “phenomenal”.

Hoping to inspire more to join them in their mission to clean up beaches locally Ocean Changes will be carrying out beach cleans every month in Sussex. All information on these will be posted on their Facebook page @oceanchanges.
