SNLH

Award-winning automotive web provider Spidersnet has launched a free-to-use online Learning Hub to educate car dealers in all aspects of digital marketing.

Car dealers can access this rich source of information to master key aspects of marketing – in particular search engine optimisation (SEO), social media and the importance of becoming mobile-ready.

Head of Marketing at Spidersnet, Adam Rowden, said: “We’ve been working hard to educate our dealers in digital marketing for years now with a range of free workshops. We wanted to expand this to offer them not only face-to-face tuition, but also some guides and advice that they can access for free, 24/7.

“We have a team of experts at our disposal who can create a range of informative resources that are specifically tailored to members of the automotive industry. And our aim is to continue to grow the Learning Hub with new guides and features going live throughout the year!”

The Hub covers topics from online reviews and how they can boost your search ranking, to business citations and online blog writing. Spidersnet also offers more indepth information on technical aspects of SEO from metadata, to links and Google algorithms, offering dealers a chance to gain a deeper understanding of the subject.

Social media is another vital cog in the wheel of digital marketing. Therefore, Spidersnet has included a range of guides on Facebook, Twitter and more, to help dealers be more proactive online.

Cars of Portsmouth have been a Spidersnet customer for a number of years and the company comments: “Spidersnet are not just a web service provider, they are also a partner in developing your web presence. Whether you’re new to the business or an old pro, their media input is invaluable.

“The Learning Hub has practically everything that you need to know to increase brand awareness and sharpen your presence on the web.”

“The Spidersnet Learning Hub offers you that insight, allowing you to develop your business and take it forward.”

Charlie Gibson, Spidersnet’s Sales Manager, also said: “It’s important to us, as a business, that we are looking after our dealers’ best interests. We appreciate that in order to remain up-to-date, they need to keep up with the ever-changing world of online customer trends.

“We don’t see our dealers as just a number. We want to help them develop along the way, and the Learning Hub is going a long way to ensuring that they are able to realise their online potential.”

Spidersnet is an award winning automotive web design company that is 100% dedicated to creating fantastic car dealer websites for all of its clients.

Brand new Caravansforsale.co.uk website launched!

new site live

Here at Friday-Ad we are pleased to be able to share some exciting news with you today. After months of careful planning, designing, building and testing we are happy to announce the relaunch of our caravan classifieds sister site – caravansforsale.co.uk!

The decision was made months ago that we needed to bring a fresh modern design to what was fast becoming a dated site. We have taken on board feedback from both existing buyers and sellers, as well as implemented some of the latest web technologies in order to help enhance the experience for our users. As a result, we are confident the end product will help further cement our position as market leader and primary go to resource for all things Touring, Static, Campervan and Motorhome related.

See below for just some of the benefits of your brand new site:

Find what you’re after, quicker!

We have introduced new and improved search functionality, allowing you to find your dream purchase even quicker than before. Every page on the new website has a large search bar at the top of the page, allowing you to enter your own free text searches. Or if you would rather use the menu navigation, we have implemented a number of new filters to help those with more specific needs. So whether you are looking for a brand new Bailey 4 berth touring caravan from Derbyshire, or perhaps a more generic 2 berth caravan for sale search, we have you covered!

Search alerts

Got something particular in mind? If we don’t currently have what you are looking for, you will now be able to create specific search alerts, to be notified when we have what you are looking for back on the site. Perhaps we do have what you are looking for, but you want new content emailed to you when it is updated? Perfect, set up a search alert!

Mobile Responsive

This is one of the elements we are most excited about with our new site launch. We now have a completely dedicated mobile version of the website. We know that more and more buyers and sellers than ever are searching for caravans on their smartphones. Previously, customers using the website on a mobile device would not receive as good an experience as those on a desktop computer. With our new site launch we wanted to ensure this was no longer the case.

Selling just got easier too

Not only will it be easier than ever to find what you want on the site, but placing an ad will also be much more straightforward with our updated Place an Ad process. This will make selling your caravan or motorhome as stress-free as can be.

Tips and Advice

We understand that it is vitally important for our users to have an area where they can get actionable tips and advice that they can put into use themselves. We have a variety of articles covering everything from caravan maintenance tips to in depth guides on some of the best caravan hot spots in the UK and abroad. That’s why we have completely revamped our editorial area.

Banner advertising for car dealerships

banners111

There are plenty of ways in which you can market your business online, from using social media and email marketing to advertising in print and other offline channels. Whilst banner advertising – being one of the oldest forms of online advertising – is often overlooked, it can still be an integral part to any successful digital campaign. So long as you are using the right messages, in the correct context, your banner advertising campaign should be a hit.

Advertisers have, for years, been aiming to place their captivating brand messages in ‘free’ spaces where consumers will encounter them on a daily basis. For example, in the adverts between their favourite television programmes, when they walk down the street or as they are looking through their post.

Nowadays, a strategically placed banner with a good strong ‘call to action’ can be just as effective as the methods of old. If you get your banner in front of the right audience and ensure that it is well designed with a nice strong message, you will be able to see a good return on your investment.

Here are just a few reasons why you should consider banner advertising to boost your business.

Brand awareness

Whilst you will launch almost all of your marketing campaigns in order to generate more customers for your dealership, another very important thing to consider is brand awareness. This does not lead to results overnight, but what it does do is leave your business in the thoughts of potential customers. Then, when they do require the service you offer, you will be at the forefront of their minds. Banner advertising is a great way to boost brand awareness as your dealership will be seen in association with a website that is popular and highly regarded among your target audience.

Good value advertising

Banner advertising is nice and cost effective as you are guaranteed to get a set number of impressions (this is the number of people that see your banner). This means that you know exactly how many people you are potentially reaching before you sign up and purchase your banner. They are also cost effective due to the fact that they are comparatively cheap to purchase when compared with a number of other forms of advertising. This is partly due to the fact that they are relatively quick and easy to create and add to a site.

Bespoke messaging

You are able to select what to add to your banner and where it leads once a potential customer has clicked on it. This is vital as you can tailor the message based entirely on what you want to push at that time. If you get the message spot on and point it to the correct page then all of your potential customers are just one click away from your website. Here at Friday-Ad Motors, we have a professional team of in-house designers who are able to design your banner for you, meaning you can send us your spec and we can create something that will be effective in driving potential new leads to your dealership. It is vital that your banner not only has a good strong ‘call to action’ but also that it is well designed and stands out from the page nicely. You want people’s eyes to be drawn to it!

Targeting

Most forms of blanket marketing – excluding email marketing – can be rather vague in their targeting. This is not the case with banner advertising. You are able to have your banner appear in front of groups that are narrowed down by a number of characteristics including their interests, location and others. If you target the correct people with a message that is relevant to their needs then you are ensuring that you get a great return on investment.

Measured results

Whatever the ‘call to action’ is on your banner, it is very simple to measure the ‘click-through rate’ and see exactly how many potential customers have clicked on your banner. By analysing this number you are able to see how successful your banner campaign has been, meaning you know whether or not it is worth continuing with the banner and spending more money on it, or if you need to make changes and take a different approach.

If you want to advertise your business to the Friday-Ad Motors audience then a banner may be perfect for you. Simply leave your details in the form below and one of our friendly sales team will be in touch!

10 reasons why you should be making the most of email marketing

email marketing for dealers

Here at Friday-Ad Motors, we are working hard to help our dealers learn as much as they can about online marketing. We have written a number of guides and advice articles to help car dealers make the most of the tools available to them. Today’s guide is all about how valuable email marketing can be!

Pretty much everyone in this country of ours has an email account, and since email was invented, people have been utilising it as a means of marketing. It is an extremely powerful channel that you can use to market your business directly to your target audience.

95% of online consumers have an email address – according to Exact Target – and of these, 91% of them check their inbox daily. This means that businesses should be doing all they can to get into the inboxes of their target audience. Marketing using social media and other mediums is vital and very important, however, when carrying out email marketing you don’t have to compete with anything else like photos, or videos or friends and family. You simply target the right people, with the right message and bingo, you are interacting directly with a possible new customer.

So, here are 10 reasons why you should consider carrying out some email marketing for your brand!

reach out

When marketing your brand to an audience, one of the most frustrating things is not being able to know how many people you have reached with your message. When advertising on Facebook or other social media platforms, you can never tell 100 % how many of the people who have ‘liked’ your page have seen your post. But with email marketing, you know exactly how many inboxes you have sent your message to. It’s then much more easy to measure how successful your marketing campaign has been.

Now, we aren’t saying that marketing emails are opened by everyone, but you do know that almost every email you send will be interacted with in some way – even if it is simply being deleted. Our marketing emails here at Friday-Ad Motors are, on average, opened by 13% of the people who receive them. Now, this may not seem that high, but when we are emailing over 1.2 million people every four months, that is a pretty large number of people who are interacting with our brand.

low cost

We all know that one of the biggest restrictions on most online marketing strategies is the budget. We would all love to have the same budgets that McDonalds and Coca Cola have at their disposal, but unfortunately we don’t. Which is why it is great that email marketing is a relatively cheap and effective means of reaching out to potential buyers.

You can purchase an email with Friday-Ad Motors, to all of our users in your local area from as little as £200. That means you can reach thousands and thousands of our engaged users and send them your own bespoke message linking through to your own website or whatever page you wish.

If you are interested in buying an email with Friday-Ad Motors, then leave your details in the form at the bottom of this page and one of our friendly sales team will get in touch!

easy to measure

Social media is a fantastic means of marketing your business to your target audience. But there is a large scale debate going on about how accurately you are able to measure return on investment when it comes to marketing on social channels. This is where email marketing comes into its own.

Once you have sent an email out to a large number of email addresses you are able to see exactly how many people opened your email, clicked on your email and unsubscribed. You can also see where they clicked and measure all of these responses and more. If you do purchase an email with Friday-Ad Motors, not only will be able to say how many people we will send it to, but we can then go on to tell you how many of those opened your email and how many went on to click and engage with your brand. Measuring these results couldn’t be easier.

track engagement

Again, compared with social media advertising and advertising in print, email marketing makes it far easier to see how many people are engaging with your message. Your email can feature a number of different ‘calls to action’, which can all be tracked.

These ‘calls to action’ are essentially buttons or links which people can click on to be taken to different parts of your website. By tracking these links, we are able to see which parts of your email are being clicked on the most, allowing you to improve your marketing messages going forward across a wide array of mediums.

When we browse our inbox to see what emails we have received, we are often expecting to come across an email that will lead us on a journey to another part of the world wide web. We see a marketing email, click on a link and end up somewhere else, hopefully browsing a service that we wish to use.

The fact that you are able to use a link in an email to send potential customers to a specific page on your website in just one click, is something that shouldn’t be underestimated. This comes in extremely handy when you have a special offer or discount available, or any other time-sensitive promotions which benefit your customers. Send an email with a cracking offer and you will get a great response.

bespoke design

When it comes to your own emails, there are very few rules in place. You are able to design the email exactly as you wish. This means that you can include your own calls to action, which will link through to wherever you wish. And, you are able to include whatever branding you wish, to ensure that your business stays in the memory of all of the potential customers who open your email.

Here at Friday-Ad Motors, we have an expert email design team that are flexible and able to create whichever designs you want. Pushing a service, advertising a discount or simply spreading the word about your business is now easier than ever. Whatever you want the message to be, a bespoke designed email allows you to be in control.

targeted campaigns

As people browse the web, they are constantly bombarded with marketing messages. This means that people have built up a natural way of ignoring a lot of messaging. Sometimes, this is a good thing, as not everyone needs everything that is being advertised on the internet. However, there are thousands of people out there who do require the services that you offer and if you don’t target them in the right manner, they may not know that you exist.

A highly targeted, well designed, personalised email that speaks to the wants and needs of existing and potential customers is much more likely to yield the best results. Here at Friday-Ad Motors we have a huge engaged database of car owners that we can target with the right messages. If you were to purchase a solus email with us then you would be able to send it to all of those engaged users who fall in your area. There is no better way to reach out to your target audience.

marketing on the go

According to Venture Beat, 65% of all emails are opened on smartphones first. This means that potential customers can open your marketing emails wherever they are when out and about on the go. All of the emails that we design and code here at Friday-Ad Motors is optimised for mobiles and tablets, which means they look great on mobile phones, ipads and all other devices.

If your potential customers are not at their computer when you post something to social media, then you may miss out on them. However, if their phone buzzes in their pocket with an email from your business, then they can open and read it then and their, or bookmark it for later on. Your message will literally be in the palm of their hand, meaning you will not be missing out on any potential engagement.

timeless

As we mentioned above, more people are opening their emails on mobile devices. However, those that do not do so, will still not fall through the cracks. That is the beauty of email marketing, if they are not able to view your email right away, they will come across it eventually. Your email will sit in their inbox indefinitely, until they either read it or delete it.

Because an email is engaged with at the convenience of the receiver, it is therefore far more likely to make both an initial and recurring impact. Some form of engagement is expected and it is unlikely that your message will be missed.

three dimensional

All of your channels are used to essentially do the same thing. Whilst social media has a lot of hype surrounding it compared with email marketing, they are essentially being utilised by marketers in a similar manner. Facebook, for example, is a tool that is being used by marketers to suggest products and services to people online. Email marketing is extremely similar, however, when you are emailing someone in the Friday-Ad Motors engaged database, you are contacting someone who has specifically agreed to receive messages from third-party advertisers.

Basically, the best way to market your brand to your target audience is to do so using as many different channels as possible. They all work well together and it is vitally important that you use email marketing to spearhead your campaign. It is the most direct and effective method of generating revenue and raising brand awareness to a list of highly targeted potential customers.

If you want to set up an email marketing campaign then you should seriously consider utilising the Friday-Ad Motors email database. Our large list of highly engaged car owners have already said ‘yes’ to our brand by signing up to receive our email updates. By emailing our database you are able to speak directly to thousands of potential customers and tell them all about what you have to offer.

Top 10 best selling cars of 2015 so far!

New car sales are flying in 2015! We have now had 38 consecutive months of growth in car sales here in the UK, which is great news! But which cars are proving to be the most popular this year?

Well, after taking a look at some figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), we can see exactly which makes and models are the most popular. Below are the top 10 most popular cars in 2015 so far…

Ford Fiesta

The number one slot in this list is unsurprising. The Ford Fiesta has been topping the UK charts for a very long time and remains the number one most popular of 2015 so far. This little cracker offers practicality and bags of fun, all at an affordable price. Its fantastic fuel economy cannot be scoffed at either. This car is so popular that it has beaten second place by a seriously considerable margin.

In at number two is the spacious and nicely priced Vauxhall Corsa. This is a brilliant little runner that is proving to be extremely popular among buyers. This car comes nicely equipped with many features and a range of engine sizes to choose from. Whilst it will not blow your mind, it is a lovely little motor that offers good value for money.

The second Ford in the top ten is the Ford Focus. Another stalwart of UK roads, the Focus is a tremendous car that is slicker and more attractive than the Fiesta and is also just as fun to drive. The Focus is also similar to its more popular sibling when it comes to fuel efficiency. Ford just keep getting it right, and they fully deserve their two places on the podium.

Not far behind the Focus is the Volkswagen Golf. This uber-stylish car is a huge hit in the UK and has been among the most popular cars in this country for a very long time. The Golf looks great and is a real treat to drive. It’s spacious and is as adept at long journeys as it is perfect for nipping into town.

Breaking the mould here is the SUV/hatchback crossover that is the Nissan Qashqai. Nissan are being rewarded for making a bold move. They took an SUV-size and shape and put in two-wheel drive and a range of economical petrol and diesel engines, and the UK loved it! This is a brilliant family car that can rival the Ford Focus and the sales figures for 2015 are proving that.

The second Volkswagen to make our list is the excellent VW Polo. This car offers you a much better driving experience than the Ford Fiesta and is also that bit more stylish. Similar to the Golf mentioned above, this is an extremely versatile car that is perfect for any drive.

The Vauxhall Astra is an affordable rival to the Ford Focus and has been a popular car in this country for quite a few years. It offers a nice slick and smooth ride and looks great. And, on top of all of this, the Astra is deceptively spacious inside. If you’re after a great runaround, then this may well be the car for you!

Money saving tips for motorists

Owning and running a car can be costly. There’s no getting away from the fact that your motor will eat away at your bank balance each and every month. However, for a large proportion of the UK, their car is vital to their life. Whilst it is worth coming to terms with the fact that your car will end up costing you a lot of money over time, it is also worth looking at ways in which you can bring those overall costs down.

So, here at Friday-Ad Motors we have come up with our top ten tips on how to save money on your car…

traffic engine

1. Fuel efficient driving – Don’t drive like a donut!

Fuel costs really can eat into your balance. Sadly, it’s pretty much impossible to run your car on anything else, so trips to the petrol station are a must. However, by driving in a certain manner you can make your car run far more efficiently making your pit stops at the petrol station less frequent.

It’s a good idea to keep your roaring accelerations to a minimum, whilst trying to drive as smooth as possible all the time. By keeping your car at a constant speed you will be able to reduce the amount of fuel that you use. It’s also worth switching off your engine when you’re stuck in traffic as this really helps to reduce fuel consumption.

added weight

2. Time to lose weight

Don’t worry, I am not going to suggest you jump on the Butterfield Diet Plan, or invest in a rowing machine. However, if you shed unnecessary weight from your car, it will cost far less to run. It’s worth making the effort to empty your boot when possible, especially for longer journeys. If you don’t need it, don’t take it with you. All that added weight will lead to reduced fuel economy and extra added costs.

As with a lot of the money saving techniques in this article, you may not see the benefit straight away, but come the end of the year you will be able to look back and see that you’ve saved a decent amount of cash.

tyre pressure

3. Tyre pressure

It’s a good idea to ensure that your tyres are at their correct pressures at all times. This may seem like a small thing to worry about in the grand scheme of things, however, a good level of tyre pressure can help keep your fuel consumption down. Under-inflated tyres will use up more energy to roll smoothly, which will, in turn require more fuel.

There should be a sticker located in your car to tell you what pressures your tyres should be at. It is usually located within the petrol cap or somewhere on the driver’s door frame. If you cannot find this information on your car then you can always consult your car manual or search on the internet.

speed limit

4. Avoid fines!

Now I don’t want to teach a granny how to suck eggs, but driving within the allocated speed limit and parking legally are both good ideas. If you’re strapped for cash then you don’t want to be lumped with a speed ticket or a substantial parking fine.

walk

5. Think before you drive

Is this journey really necessary? That is what you should be thinking before getting in the car. Rather than making 10 trips to the shops throughout the week in your car, why not do one larger shop and save money on fuel?

Sometimes, and we are all guilty of this, but sometimes, we hop in the car when we could walk. If you can walk the distance and it’s not hammering down with rain, make the effort to walk. This will save you fuel costs and will help you keep fit and healthy.

lift share

6. Car pool

If you drive to work, why not arrange a lift share with some of your colleagues? You drive to and from work one week, then the next week it’s someone else’s turn. This is a great way to save money as you will only be driving once every other week (or every three weeks if you can get a third driver).

And, on top of that, it will also save the environment as you’re reducing the amount of cars on the road. It’s also a good way to get to know your colleagues and have someone to talk to when you’re stuck in rush hour traffic.

maintained

7. Exhaust check

If your car exhaust has holes in it, it can make a lot of noise and be rather annoying. However, what you may not be aware of, is the fact that it can also end up making your car far less fuel efficient. Therefore, you need to ensure that you keep an eye on your exhaust and get any issues fixed straight away.

This rule doesn’t only apply to your exhaust, however. No, when it comes to all aspects of maintenance on your car, you should always get any issues fixed immediately. It may cost a bit up front, but it will essentially save you money in the long run. Check out some great mechanics in our motoring services section.

prepare

8. Plan

If you are about to undertake a long journey in your trusty car, you should always take a little time out to plan ahead. If you need to fill up, it is always worth doing so at a petrol station in town, or in a supermarket as these tend to be cheaper than those situated in service stations.

It’s also worth pre planning your food. Anything bought at a motorway service station will cost you a bomb compared to if it is made at home or bought before you set off. Packed lunches are the way forward!

shop around

9. Shop around for insurance

Insurance is another costly expense for motorists. You should shop around as much as possible to find the best deal available. If your car insurance is up for renewal, compare your cost to other quotes for the same policy. If you are able to find a cheaper deal, it’s worth contacting your current insurance provider. They may be willing to match the cheaper deal in order to keep you on board.

If you live at a property with multiple cars and multiple drivers, some insurers offer ‘multi-car’ policies, where a number of cars are insured on the same policy. This can provide a saving compared with insuring a car on its own.

car tax

10. Car tax

Car tax must be paid. There’s no avoiding it. However, there are ways in which you can save time and money. Applying for car tax online means you don’t have to spend time queuing up and then you also aren’t paying for postage.

If you know your car is going to be completely off the road for at least six months, it’s worth knowing that you don’t have to pay road tax on it. So if you are going away for a long holiday (over six months) or you don’t need your car for a sustained period of time, you can save money by not renewing your tax until after the six months is up. You must, however, declare it off the road by applying for a SORN notice from the DVLA. Leaving your road tax to lapse and parking it on the drive is not good enough – do this and you may just get the DVLA on your case.

Debunking the hybrid car myths

hybrid car myths

Hybrid cars are growing in popularity as more people become environmentally conscious and others look to reduce their fuel expenditure. Because, whilst these cars are far better for the planet on which we live, they are also much better for your bank balance too.

However, even though these cars are becoming more and more intelligently designed as the years go on, it does seem that there are still some people out there who don’t even consider them when choosing a new car. There are a number of myths out there regarding hybrid cars that may well be putting people off these innovative vehicles.

So we thought we would run through some of these myths and set the record straight.

Myth #1: Hybrid cars lack power

lack power

It’s pretty clear that people love a bit of power in their car. Many folks enjoy revving their engine as they speed off. And, many people are put off hybrid cars because they believe them to offer up less power than other options.

Nowadays, this myth is completely false. It may have been true once, but these days the manufacturers have worked tirelessly to produce good quality cars that pack plenty of punch. Almost all the brands that manufacture hybrid cars have produced sporty, fast models that are ace for those of you who like to hit the open road.

Myth #2: Hybrid cars need plugging in

plugged in

When people mention hybrid cars, a lot of people jump to the conclusion that they need to be plugged in, in order for their engines to charge properly. That assumption comes down to the fact that ‘electricity’ is mentioned when hybrid cars are being discussed. But again, these days, that is not the case. Regenerative braking, which is an ingenious system borrowed from locomotive technology, has put pay to the use of plugs to charge engines.

This technology sees the energy that is usually lost when a vehicle is slowing down or breaking reclaimed and routed to the hybrid’s rechargeable batteries. And, on top of this, the petrol fuelled engine also transfers energy to the batteries in an automatic process.

Myth #3: Hybrid batteries need to be replaced often

replacing batteries

A number of potential buyers are worried about the expense of replacing a hybrid car’s batteries, which many believe need replacing often. Car manufacturers have greatly extended the lifespan of hybrid car batteries and if you keep the charge between 40 and 60 per cent, then the battery should last you a very long time.

Roughly speaking, hybrid car batteries should last you around 100,000 miles, however, this does obviously depend on the manufacturer and your location etc.

Myth #4: Hybrid cars cost an arm and a leg!

cost a fortune

The belief that hybrid cars are overly expensive stems from a time when these cars were brand new and very fashionable. When it comes to all new technologies it is safe to say that everything is pretty expensive when it is first released. This was true of the hybrid cars of years gone by. But now, as these cars become more and more common on our roads, the cost of these vehicles is falling.

Whilst the cost of these cars is falling, it is also worth bearing in mind that you will also be saving a large chunk on your fuel costs. All the money you will be saving on fuel can go towards paying off your hybrid car and you will have the payments completed much faster than if you purchased a regular fuel powered model. Also, consider that every time the fuel prices in the UK rise, your hybrid car is technically saving you more and more money in the long run.

Myth #5: Hybrid cars are just a fad

fad

It seems that a number of naysayers, who seem to have a real aversion to hybrid cars for no apparent reason, claim that they are ‘just a fad’ and that they will peter out eventually. But when it comes to these vehicles, they are most certainly more than just a fad.

Some of the largest car manufacturers in the world are investing huge amounts of money in making these vehicles more efficient and more powerful. They can see it, so should you. These cars are the future.

A car dealer guide to Facebook

guide to fb

Facebook is still number one when it comes to social media networks. Not only does it have the most users – it now has over 1 billion – but it also provides more referral traffic than any other social media platform, and therefore has the highest potential ROI.

Before you crack on with your Facebook experiment, it’s important to know just what you want to get out of it. Here at Friday-Ad Motors, we feel that you should be using the tool to create brand awareness within your local community, show off your expertise and credibility and increase your reach whilst generating new traffic to your website. But essentially, you want to increase sales.

First thing’s first, get your page looking sharp

You have plenty of space in which you can make your Facebook page look professional and represent your business well. Your cover image is 851 pixels by 315 pixels and is not allowed to include more than 20% text. It is, however, the perfect place for you to sell your business to anyone who lands on your page. It’s the first thing they’ll see so make sure you use it well. People should be able to see your cover picture alone and know exactly what sort of business you are and what you offer!

Your profile picture should also be used well. It is 180 pixels by 180 pixels (it shows at 160 pixels by 160 pixels) and we would advise you to use your company logo here. Nice and simple.

As well as your profile picture and cover picture, you will also want to ensure that the text in your ‘About’ section is nicely filled in and conveys your business well. You should also make sure that your web address is included here.

Get posting

It is important that you post regularly. When people land on a Facebook page that has clearly been left stagnant for a long time, they are not very likely to ‘like’ it. In order to engage your audience properly you will want to set up a regular stream of fun, interesting and relevant posts.

There are a number of things that you as a dealership can post about. From automotive news and car related posts, to photographs and other bits and pieces. Here are just a few ideas of things that you can post about on Facebook:

  • Links to your stock – You do want to show off what you have to offer after all. However, it is important that you bear in mind that you should only posting about yourself around 20% of the time. The rest of the time should be taken up posting about other things, such as the following few points.
  • Local news – Most of your customers will be local and from a certain catchment area. Why not keep them informed by reposting any local news that you feel they might need or want to know.
  • Automotive news – Anything car related is worth a post. Bear in mind that you want people to engage with your posts, so try and stick with things that are interesting, informative and fun. People are more likely to share a fun and entertaining video than something that’s just a bit dull.
  • Nice images – People share nice images all the time. And, with the internet being full of places where you can grab stylish and uber-cool car imagery, you have an endless pool to tap into.
  • Photos from the dealership – If there are any strange or interesting goings on at the dealership then why not post them to Facebook? People love to get a glimpse of what’s going on behind the scenes.

No matter what you are posting, it is worth bearing in mind that posts containing images tend to get twice the amount of engagement that posts without images. Therefore, make sure that you always include an image with your posts!

more engagement

Run a competition

If you want to increase the number of people who like your page or you just want to get your brand in front of a wider audience, a competition could be the way forward. If your garage carries out servicing and repairs then why not offer these as a prize? If you have nothing that you can offer yourself then you could always strike up a relationship with a local restaurant and offer a dinner for two as your prize.

Once you have your prize there are a number of different competitions that you can run. For example, you could run some form of caption competition, get people to send in pictures and choose your favourite, run a quiz or any other ideas that you have. Coming up with a good competition idea can be fun and very rewarding when the entries start flying in.

Respond to people

You don’t want to be seen to be ignoring anyone. Therefore, if someone leaves a comment or asks a question, make sure that you respond. This especially applies to any negative comments that you receive. If someone is complaining about something then you can show the public how well you deal with this situation. Be as accommodating as possible and ensure the individual that you will do all you can in order to help them out.

This way, anyone who lands on your Facebook page will see that you have dealt with the complaint well and your dealership’s reputation will go up in their estimation.

respond to fb

Insights

Facebook even has its own analytics tool called ‘Insights’. This is nice and easy to use and allows you to keep track on how well your posts are performing. You can see what has been successful and what has been unsuccessful which can help you keep your strategy moving forward. It is important to keep an eye on Insights so you can utilise what’s working well and do more of it, whilst avoiding wasting time on posts that aren’t performing well.

You can also track your new page likes and break down who follows you by a number of demographics. This allows you to make your posts more targeted meaning you aren’t leaving anyone out.

Car dealer guide to Twitter

car dealer guide to twitter

Twitter is becoming more vital for small businesses and as it grows, more car dealers from up and down the country are jumping on board. There are currently 500 million users on Twitter, with a further 135,000 new users signing up every day. And, if you utilise this fantastic tool to its full potential then you can really see the benefit!

Decide what you want to achieve

It is important that you know what you want to get out of Twitter. It can be useful for a number of things. For most car dealers the main benefits of Twitter can be growing an engaged and relevant following as well as getting their brand in front of a number of potential customers. It really is the perfect tool for building your brand’s reputation and getting it more well-known in your area.

Be sure to follow other local businesses and any ‘key influencers’ in your area. A key influencer is someone who is active on Twitter and is followed by a large number of your target audience. If you notice that there are certain users, or even other businesses, that have a large following from your local area, then try and build some form of rapport with them. They may retweet you or share your content, meaning you are increasing the number of potential customers who are seeing your brand.

What are you tweeting about?

Over 340 million tweets are sent out daily around the globe. So, how can you stand out from the rest? First up, it is important that you don’t bombard your followers with too much blatant advertising or sales materials. Sure, you can post pictures of your stock and deals that you are offering, but make sure that this is not all you are posting. Otherwise, people will get bored and unfollow you.

Think about what your followers may want to see from you. As you are aiming to get people local to your area to follow your brand on Twitter, make sure you are tweeting about local events and news. If you think a news story may be interesting or useful to your followers, tweet it. The same goes to other automotive based stories. Whilst your followers may not all be car enthusiasts, it is important to post some car related tweets too – you are in the industry after all.

It is also important that you respond to any tweets that are directed at you. People will be able to see these tweets and if they aren’t responded to then your brand will look negligent. This is especially the case when you receive any negative tweets. By responding professionally and in a timely manner, you can show off your business’ fantastic customer service.

respond to negative

Don’t be afraid to show your personal side too. If it is someone at the dealerships’ birthday, say so. Maybe even post a picture of the cake that you’re all sharing etc. People love to see the goings on behind the scenes, so don’t be afraid to show off the people who make your business what it is.

Getting followers

Depending on the reputation and influence of your dealership it can be relatively easy or pretty difficult to get your first 100 followers. Here are some tips and advice that can help you along your way.

First up, it is always a good idea to ensure that all of your staff are following you with their personal Twitter accounts as well as all of your friends and family. As long as your friends don’t mind you asking, you can quite easily get around 30/40 followers this way.

You should also promote your Twitter account on Facebook. If you are already set up on Facebook and have a decent number of followers then a few posts asking them to follow you on Twitter can be a great way to generate more follows.

Lastly, you should always promote your Twitter handle on and offline. This way, people can find your page and follow you off their own volition. You should include a link in your email signature, include it on as much advertising as possible and also add it to any business cards or flyers etc.

handle

Knowing who to follow

There will be a large number of interesting and relevant people on Twitter for you to follow. Early on you should focus on key influencers as mentioned above, but you will also want to follow other local companies and events, other car dealers and businesses that are related to the industry. You can find these people by carrying out Twitter searches, looking at lists and taking a look at who your competitors are following.

It is also worth following those people who are keen retweeters. If you follow them and build a relationship they may follow you back and could end up retweeting you in the future. It is worth seeing what kind of things they share so you can target them with similar tweets in the future.

Quick tips to take home

  • Make sure your profile is updated to the new look – and is still legible. Take advantage of the new layout by adding a header image to your twitter page. It should compliment your background, be bold and stand out but still allow for your bio text to be read clearly (which will show in white over the top of your image).
  • Manage your Twitter relationships in less time. There are lots of great tools that can help you update your Twitter account ‘Hootsuite’ and ‘bufferapp’ allow you to schedule in your tweets for the day/week so that you have a constant and consistent flow of tweets going out but which are still personalised so it still feels ‘real’ to your followers. You can use ‘followerwonk’ to map your ‘key influencers’ within your niche, and most engaged members. It helps you cut through the noise so you don’t neglect the people who likely help your business most on Twitter. Retweet, like and tweet to your ‘Key influencers’ regularly to try and build a relationship, they will eventually reciprocate and retweet you- getting your post huge exposure.
  • Land great clients by tweeting with them. Twitter is one of the easiest networks for engaging with people, regardless of whether they are following you. If you want to land a particular client for your business, start tweeting with them. Share their posts and include their username in the tweet. Follow key people in the company’s organization, if possible, to answer any questions they might ask their followers. The smallest interactions could lead to the biggest deals.
  • Keep track of your follower trends. Track what is working and what is not with your twitter account- ‘Twittercounter’ is a free tool that lets you see your follower growth over a three month time span. Track your progress to notice trends- if there are any surges in your follower count over a period of time this may be a reflection of your recent activity so take note of what you did that was effective! – Again you can also use Google analytics custom URL builder (see above) when posting a ‘money tweet’ (referral link back to your site) to analyse how much traffic etc your link generated.
